Job Title: Recycling Technician - Curbside Driver (Entry Level, Independent Contractor)

Description: Earn extra cash on the weekends and help Maui achieve Zero Waste! Curbside Recycle Drivers are responsible for the collection and hand loading of residential recyclables as well as the transporting and sorting of these materials via a pick-up truck to our partner recycling facilities. NO COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIRED!

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Drive the routes provided by our operations managers 

• Pick up recyclable materials placed outside homes or on residential curbsides

• Sort recycling by hand into recycling categories at the designated recycling facility 

• Drop recyclables into containers or at another location designated on the route provided. 

• Weigh recycling on a scale and report HI-5 receipt to operations manager

• Complete these tasks by the end of each day​

• Read the Driver Updates provided by operations manager, including updates or changes to Accepted Recyclable Materials List and Sorting Guides.

Qualifications: 

• A valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (no moving violations)

• 18 years or older (with two or more years of driving experience)

• Physical fitness to lift up to 50 pounds 

• General technological knowledge, such as being able to learn and use company devices to maintain accurate records of inventory and hours worked

• Should be able to use your own truck.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A passion for recycling and making Maui a better place

• Working knowledge or some familiarity with recycling practices

• A trailer, long truck bed, or existing hauling equipment is not required but are helpful and may increase your pay rates. 

• Experience with vehicle maintenance is a preferred qualification, but not necessary.

Work Conditions: 

• Work primarily outdoors 

• Physical labor

• Work on weekends / Flexible work schedule

Pay expectations:

• Expected daily rate: $25/hour

• Keep the HI-5 cash as a bonus!

• Cash award opportunities based on consistent & quality performance and/or for customers referrals

• Write off your mileage, gas and truck expenses as an independent contractor
